BLOODLETTING
It’s widely believed that our first president, George Washington, died from bloodletting, a standard medical practice in those days. Taking blood from a sick patient only makes that person weaker. Today, the world’s economy is sick, so ignorant fiscal authorities are bleeding the economy by imposing austerity on it’s population as a long term solution to the economic ills that have been visited upon us by irresponsible, unregulated bankers. The austerity gang, while they themselves continue to live in comfort, have begun to bleed the economy by cutting wages, laying off civil servants, and foregoing needed infrastructure maintenance, all in the name of curing the world’s economic malaise. Asking someone to hold their breath for two minutes is one thing, but for years? While there’s not a shred of evidence that the practice of economic austerity has helped to ease unemployment or raise consumer confidence, the well off continue to preach to the rest of us that they are the job-creators and that prosperity is just around the corner. A review of history will show that the last president to preach austerity was Herbert Hoover.
